Children “Interest in Chinese Dance” Class (age 3 to 5)

Develop children’s basic understanding and interest in Chinese Folk Dance. Using Chinese folk music, children songs, and folk songs as teaching materials, to develop the students’ imagery in the thought process, and to encourage creativity in dance movements. In this class, students will also learn to perform Chinese Folk dances for stage shows.

 

Children Chinese Dance (age 6-9) and Youth Chinese Dance (age 10-14)

Basic techniques of Chinese Folk Dance are emphasized in this class. The students will learn and improve flexibility, stance, stamina, position, harmony and technical command of the body, in the backdrop of aesthetics standards demanded by the Chinese Folk Dance culture. Ultimately, the students will acquire basic understanding of the Chinese Folk Dance culture and its means of expression. In this class, students will also learn specific Chinese Folk dances for stage shows. Through programming, choreography, and awareness, to develop the students’ ability to incorporate Chinese culture into creative moves and self-expression.

 

Chinese Classical Dance (age 12 to 55)

Through solid basic techniques of modern dance, to re-examine the elements of Chinese Classical Dances—including rhythm, flow, position, posture and figure, etc. to develop sensitivity in the aesthetic understanding of Chinese Classical Dances.

Chinese Ethnic Folk Dance (age 12 to 55)

Teach Folk Dances of various Chinese ethnic sub-groups, including Han, Mongol, Tibetan, Unger, Korean, etc. Offer students a wide exposure to dances of various Chinese sub-groups and cultures.

 

Beginner Latin (age 18 to 55)

“Latin” is usually referred as one kind of Dance sport, which mainly originates from Latin America. Compared to typical ballroom dance, Latin dances are generally faster-paced, more sensual, and have more rhythmic expression. The Latin class this term will develop student's basic steps and skills in Latin dance (Cha cha cha, etc.).

 

 

Adult Lyrical Dance for Enjoyment, Leisure and Relaxation(age 18 to 55)

Feeling overworked and drained? Looking for means to stretch out your body? Curious to experience a touch of Chinese dance culture? Our "Adult Lyrical Dance" class is ideal for you. From slower moves to a faster pace, the instructor will show you the basics you need to relax your muscles as well as your mind. Encourage the students to develop self-awareness of the movements in relation to the body. The students will eventually develop a sense of additional free space surrounding the body, and the ability to freely utilizing this space to expand the mind-body boundaries.

 

Asian Hip Hop Performance (Competitive) (age 12-40)

Develop basic understanding and interest in hip hop Dance. Through programming and choreography to present the result as complete hip hop dances on stage. Students will learn movements that are more focusing on hips, waist, shoulders, and heads. Some body rolling, hopping and shaking will also be covered as well. Students will eventually develop a sense of hip hop-kind freestyle movement with music, develop their potentials from different levels and learn to performance hip hop dance on stage. Students are required to participate in Manitoba Provincial Dance Competition in May, 2008.

 

Asian Hip Hop Performance (age 12-40)

Develop basic understanding and interest in hip hop Dance. The contents of teaching are similar to the Competitive program. Performance opportunity may be provided.

 

Rehearsal

Rehearsals for dance performance and competitions. Students registering rehearsal are usually students over 12-year old and have already enrolled in at least one other training class in the school. Instructor’s permission is required for registration. (Students who are not registered for this term’s other training classes may also be invited to the rehearsal, but shall pay a different rate of fees.)
