Dear
parents and students,
We
wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
As
our current dance term is approaching to the end, we would like to take
this opportunity to thank you all for your support to our dance
academy. We hope you or your children have been enjoying the dance
training, and we wish you would like to continue the training in the
coming new term (February-May 2008).
For
students under age 16 (under 18 with disabilities), we will offer you
an official tuition receipt by the end of January 2008. As this is the
very first year that the federal government implements the
Children’s Fitness Tax Credit for your income tax, it will be
a learning process for all of us. If there is any problem incurred
regarding this matter, please feel free to contact us. We will be more
than happy to assist you!
For the new term,
we are going to expand our children and youth Chinese dance program
into three age groups (age 3-5,
6-9 and 10-14) in order to make the training more age-specific. We are
also planning to expand our Hip Hop program to at least three classes
per week to meet the rising needs from the teens and young adults.
Please join us to welcome our new Breakdance instructor Immanuel
Ledesma. Other dance classes will be continued with two new instructors
Ms. Yuanyuan Shao and Ms. Qian Wang, and both of them graduated from
professional dance collage/school in China. Welcome them to join our
teaching team! We hope our school is not only a place to offer high
quality Chinese dance training, but also to enrich the cultural life
for our community.
The
Artistic Director, Ms. Yun Cheng, will be away from Winnipeg from early
January to the end of March 2008 due to family reasons, but she will be
continuously support all other instructors. Your understanding would be
greatly appreciated!
To
facilitate the communication of our dance program with the general
dance community in Manitoba, we encourage students to participate in
Manitoba Dance Festival in May 2008. Registration will be conducted in
March, 2008.
GOOD
news to lower income families! A financial aid program will be
established in 2008 in order to help lower income family children to
attend our training. Up to $100 financial aid will be provided to each
recipient. A couple of scholarships will be established to
acknowledge Students with Best Improvement. Details of these programs

Children Floral Umbrella Dance
The
“Floral Umbrella Dance” is style of classical
Chinese Folk Dance. This dance has been popular in southern China for
years. As part of the dance show, the art-work and design of the
umbrella surface is also a unique expression of the traditional Chinese
culture. The children have put in an enormous effort in a short time
especially for the Folkorama show. The youngest child performer is only
four years old. The choreographer of this dance hopes that the children
participating in the performance will get a glimpse of Chinese culture
through this dance. The dance itself will be a collaboration between
the children and the dance teacher on stage. The dance is choreographed
by Yun Cheng.

Uygur
is one of the 56 ethnic groups in China, which usually lives in
the northeastern China -Xinjiang Province. Uygur is a lively ethnic
group and people are fond of singing and dancing. This uygur dance is
choreographed according to a famous folk song in Xinjiang Province,
which tells that the love in our hearts is like blooming red flowers.
The dance is choreographed
by Yun Cheng.
Folk
dance: Yearning for Him
In old days of northern China, some people
live on transferring goods from place to place. These movers usually
use animals as vehicles and travel a few months or even a year before
they return home. Families are usually missing these movers very much
and looking forward to their return. This dance is about a story that
girls are expecting their loved ones return when they see a group of
movers coming. The dance is choreographed
by Yun Cheng.
